MOREHEAD, Ky. - Following a week off for finals, Men's Basketball travels to Nashville, Tenn. to face Lipscomb in a rematch on Saturday at 5 p.m.
In the second game of the season, the Eagles jumped out to a 12-0 lead and downed the Bisons, 89-75, at Johnson Arena.
Overall, Morehead State is 2-0 all-time vs. Lipscomb. Prior to this season, the two teams had not squared off since 1958.
The Eagles enter the game on Saturday with a 2-5 record and they are looking to put an end to a five-game losing streak. Last season, their worst losing streak was a four-game skid in late December. The last time Morehead State lost six straight was in 2014-15.
Lipscomb enters with a 3-8 record, but in their last four games has a couple two-point losses to Belmont, a one-point loss to Tennessee State, and a 19-point win over Tennessee Tech. Overall, the Bisons will play eight games against OVC teams.
Through seven games, Morehead State is averaging 8.9 steals, which ranks 24th in the country. The Eagles had 33 steals in their first two games, both wins, good for 16.5 per game, but just 29 in their last five games, which equates to 5.8 steals per game.
Sophomore guard
Malik Maitland averages 2.6 steals per game, which is tied for first in the OVC.
The Eagles have been outscored by 65 points at the free throw line, which is 9.3 points per game. The Eagles are shooting 63-of-97 (.649), while opponents are shooting 128-of-189 (.677).
Morehead State shot zero free throws in the loss at Purdue on Saturday. Game-by-game records are only available dating back to 2002-03. It marks the first time that the Eagles have shot zero free throws during that span. The previous low was two free throws (2-of-2) at Louisville on Nov. 28, 2008.
Despite often facing a size disadvantage, the Eagles are outscoring opponents in the paint, 260-192. They have only been outscored down low twice this season, at Evansville and at Purdue.
Senior guard
Xavier Moon leads the team with 12.1 points per game, which ranks 25th in OVC. He has scored in double figures in five of seven games and scored a season-high 19 against Marshall.
Senior forward
DeJuan Marrero scored a season-high 18 points and had 13 rebounds at Pitt for his second double-double of the year. He had 17 points and 16 rebounds against Lipscomb. He has nine career double-doubles. His 7.4 rebounds per game rank 9th in OVC.
