Box Score (PDF)CLEVELAND, Ohio - Morehead State softball came from behind again to down Bowling Green, 6-5, on Saturday morning at the CSU Dome Invitational.Â
With the win, the Eagles moved their record to 3-0 and all three wins were of the come-from-behind variety.
"The long ball carried us to victory again today and Rager gave us a solid performance in relief," said head coach
David Williams.
Trailing 4-0 after three innings, the Eagles scored two runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, courtesy of three two-run home runs, to take a 6-4 lead. Sophomore
Robyn Leighton delivered the first home run and her second home run in the sixth gave MSU a 6-4 lead. Senior
Lizzy Margagliotti tied the game with her two-run shot in the fifth inning.
Rager (1-0) picked up the win after allowing three hits and an earned run in 4.1 innings of work.
In the second game, Robert Morris scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Eagles fell for the first time this season, 8-0.
Freshman
Taylor Funk made the start, but couldn't get out of the first inning. She allowed five runs, three of which were earned, on four hits in just 0.1 innings of work.
Morehead State managed just three hits, while committing three errors in the loss.
"We ran out of pitching. Any time you play four games in a 24-hour period, it is exhausting for everyone," said Williams. "The loss shouldn't overshadow the fact that we went 3-1 this weekend. It is a good start and something positive to build on."
Next weekend, the Eagles travel to Kennesaw, Ga. to participate in the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament. They will face Bradley on Friday, Rutgers and Bowling Green on Saturday, and Kennesaw State on Sunday.
