Magnusson was joined at 16-over by Southern Cal's Amy Lee, but was named the winner of the tournament following a card-off.
"Anna played solid and her mental toughness really paid off," said head coach
Stephanie Barker.
Senior
Linnea Scholin finished in third place, just one stroke behind Magnusson. She shot 79-75-79 to finish at 17-over.
With the strong play of Magnusson and Scholin, Morehead State (+90) finished second in the event, behind Santa Clara (+81). Senior
Katie Rice shot 25-over (85-80-76), junior
Brittany Whatley shot 33-over (85-85-79), and freshmanÂ
Gabriela Villalba Arias shot 36-over (89-84-79).
The Eagles shot a second-round best 314 and improved on that by shooting a 311 in the final round. The round of 311 was the second best team round of the tournament, bested only by Santa Clara's final round total of 310.
"This tournament was definitely a challenge for us all," said Barker. "This is a tough course and when you combine that with strong Santa Ana winds, you really have to have a certain mindset to survive, let alone thrive. I am so proud of our team for embracing the challenge this week."
The tournament win marks Magnusson's second of her career, both of which have come during her junior season. In late August, she shot 67-69 and finished at 8-under (136) to claim the Bluegrass Fall Kickoff at the University Club at Arlington in Richmond, Ky.
As a sophomore, Magnusson was named OVC Golfer of the Year and led the OVC with a 75.6 stroke average. Her four top-five performances and seven top-10 efforts paced the way for the Eagles.
The next tournament for Morehead State women's golf is the College of Charleston Kiawah Spring Invitational, which begins on Sunday, Feb. 28.
