Men's Tennis succumbs to No. 9 Wake Forest, 7-0

Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Morehead State men's tennis encountered a 7-0 setback to No. 9 Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

The loss for the Eagles puts them at 1-6 on the season, and the Demon Deacons (18-4) push their win streak to five matches, with all five contests ending at 7-0.

"We ran into one of the hottest teams in the country today," said Head Coach Kevin Fulton. "There's a reason you schedule matches like this for your team. I want them to see there's no difference in talent, but it's more of a mental game."

Senior Gabriel Ruiz and junior Ritchie Krunneberg were each defeated in straight sets but were fitting opponents to the nationally-ranked Demon Decons.

Ruiz hung tough with Jon Ho, losing the first set 6-2 and rallied late in the second set, but came up short dropping the set 6-3.

Krunnenberg fell to the nationally-ranked, top-20 Romain Bogaerts, 6-2 in each set.

The team of Krunnenberg and Ruiz went down earlier in the late afternoon affair, 6-2 in doubles competition to Bogaerts and Dennis Uspenksy. The senior group of Nick Mercer and Enrique Samudio were defeated 6-1 by Skander Mansouri and Anthony Delcore.

"I'm very pleased with the progress of Gabriel Ruiz, Ritchie Krunnenberg, and Enrique Samudio," said Fulton. All three have really rounded their games, and I look forward to big things from all three as we go into conference play."

Morehead State will look ahead to Friday as it opens Ohio Valley Conference competition against Tennessee Tech on Friday at Sadler Courts.
