Eagles to host Nevada in Game 1 of CBI Finals on Monday

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Following a 77-72 victory at Ohio on Wednesday night, Morehead State will now host the Nevada Wolfpack in game one of the CBI Finals on Monday night at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Morehead State, which is 22-12 overall and finished 11-5 in Ohio Valley Conference play, has earned its fifth postseason appearance in the past eight seasons. The Eagles played in the 2009 and 2011 NCAA Tournaments, in addition to the 2010 and 2014 CBI.

For the first time in program history, the Eagles have won three postseason games in one season. MSU's previous high was two postseason wins in 1956 and 1961. In both of those seasons, they won an NCAA Regional quarterfinal game and then a Regional third place game. 

With their trip to the CBI Championship, Morehead State is participating in its first ever national postseason championship game. A win would mark their first ever national postseason championship and just the second for an OVC school. Murray State won the CIT in 2014.

MSU has recorded its seventh 20-win season in program history. Five of those 20-win campaigns have come in the last eight years and head coach Sean Woods has led MSU to 20-plus wins twice in four years.

With 22 wins on the year, the Eagles have the most victories since they finished the 2010-11 season at 25-10.

The Eagles were the only road team to win in the first round of the CBI and the win marked their first postseason victory since they upset Louisville in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2011. The road team has won only three times in this year's CBI and Morehead State has two of those three victories after defeating Ohio in Athens.

Morehead State is averaging 81.0 points-per-game in the CBI and is shooting 63-of-77 from the charity stripe. They shot 21-of-24 in the win at Siena and 20-of-22 in the win at Ohio. They are outrebounding bigger opponents by 4.3 rebounds per game and have recorded 34 steals, while forcing 49 turnovers in just three games.

The CBI Finals will consist of a best-of-three series and will air live on ESPNU. Games two and three will take place in Reno, Nev. on Wednesday, March 30, and Friday, April 1 (if necessary).
