MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State softball team returns home this weekend to face Austin Peay and Murray State in Ohio Valley Conference play. They will face the Governors at 12 and 2 p.m. ET on Friday and then the Racers on Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m. ET.
The Eagles enter this weekend with a 14-10 record. They opened OVC play by sweeping Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. and then split a doubleheader at Appalachian State on Tuesday.
Junior shortstop
Karly Thompson was named Adidas OVC Player of the Week last week after batting .529 with 11 runs batted in. It marked the third time that an Eagle has won OVC Player of the Week this season as sophomore catcher
Robyn Leighton has received the honor twice.
Thompson finished the week with a team-high nine hits, two doubles, 11 runs batted in, 14 total bases and an .824 slugging percentage. She also belted the team's lone home run.
She is hitting .375, which ranks second on the team to Leighton (.407), and is one of three players to start all 24 games this season. She has a team-high 20 RBI and is tied for the team-lead with 24 hits and five home runs.
Freshman
Allison Rager has pitched three complete games, including two shutouts, in her last three appearances. She has allowed just one run in her last 21 innings and has struck out 19, while walking just seven.Â
She is 7-2 with a 3.53 era on the season.
