JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The Morehead State softball team fell in both games of the doubleheader at Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon. In the first game, the Eagles were no-hit and fell 3-0. They then fell 6-0 in game two.Â
Whitney Gillespie kept the Eagles off balance the entire game en route to the no-hitter. She allowed just one baserunner, as
Ellen Barrett walked to lead off the second inning.Â
Mackenzie Grossmann picked up the loss for Morehead State, allowing four hits and three earned runs in 2.2 innings. She walked two and struck out one.
In the first inning of game two, the Eagles received singles from
Tressa Watson and
Allison Rager and had runners on second and third with just one out. But, Barrett and
Robyn Leighton both struck out to end the threat.
That would be Morehead State's lone scoring threat as Taylor West allowed just four more hits the rest of the way. She picked up the win with the shutout, while striking out six and walking none.Â
Rager picked up the loss for MSU after allowing six runs, just three of which were earned, in 4.2 innings. She walked three and struck out just one. She also led the way for the offense, going 2-for-3.
The Eagles face Jacksonville State again in the finale of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. ET. They are looking for their first win at Jax State since 2009.
