Men's tennis battles with JSU, but drops match 5-2

Box Score

Jacksonville, Ala.—Morehead State men's tennis dropped its second straight Ohio Valley Conference contest, losing 5-2 to Jacksonville State at the JSU Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles (5-9, 4-2 OVC) are in the midst of a six-match road streak and are currently 2-3 during the stretch. The Gamecocks (7-11, 3-2) collected the win after dropping back-to-back OVC matches.

Senior Gabriel Ruiz and junior Ritchie Krunnenberg remain undefeated in doubles play within the OVC, at 5-0, after defeating Andres Gomez and Liu Shao Chun 6-4.

Ruiz and Krunnenberg claimed the only doubles victory as the point went to JSU and an early JSU advantage.

Kruunenberg rode his momentum into singles play, defeating Pedro Wagner 5-0 in the first set and winning the match after Wagner retired.

Sophomore Sebastian Penaloza claimed his third straight singles match, defeating Shao Chun in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. The three-match winning streak for Penaloza marks a first in his collegiate career.

Morehead State will finish up the six-match road streak on Tuesday at Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m. ET.
