Two state champions highlight CC/Track spring signees

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
A cross country state champion, track state title holder, and five regional champions make up the accolades for the spring signing class for Morehead State head cross country and track coach Stephen Picucci.
 
Aaron Wier (Versailles, Ky.) and Jarrett Mattingly (New Haven, Ky.) signed National Letters of Intent to join the Eagle men, while Caitlin Cunningham (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Abbie Dorn (Toledo, Ohio), Amelia Sebok (Seth, W.Va.) and Shelby Watkins (Carlisle, Ky.) inked NLIs with the women's program.
 
Picucci is in his second season leading the Eagle runners.
 
Wier won the 2015 Kentucky state title in cross country, representing Lexington Christian Academy. He also won the regional title and boasts a personal best of 15:56.19 in 5K races. Wier won the region and placed sixth in the state in the 800-meter run in 2015. He was also the state runner-up and region champion in the 1,600-meter run. His personal record for the 1,600-meter is 4:22.42, and he has topped out at 1:59.52 in the 800-meter event.
 
Mattingly is a four-time state qualifier for cross country from Thomas Nelson High School. He won the 2015 region title and placed sixth at the state meet for cross country. On the track, Mattingly took first in the region in the 3,200-meters and second for the 1,600-meter race. On the state level, he recorded a third-place showing for the 1,600-meter event and sixth in the 3,200-meters. His personal bests include 16:02.14 (5K), 4:32.59 (1,600) and 10:02.74 (3,200).
 
Cunningham prepped at Siegel High School, where she qualified for the Tennessee State Championships in cross country in 2015. On the track, she won her league title in the 1,600-meter event and was the league runner-up in the 800-meter race in 2015. Her personal records are 18:59.00 (5K), 5:41.31 (1,600) and 11:53.00 (3,200).
 
Dorn is a product of Whitmer High School. She is her class valedictorian. She is a four-time regional qualifier and one-time state qualifier for cross country. Her personal bests include 19:01.90 (5K), 5:30.66 (1,600) and 11:49.03 (3,200).
 
Sebok, from Sherman High School, won the state title in the 3,200-meter race in 2015 and holds regional titles in cross country and track (1,600 and 3,200-meters). She was the 2015 state runner-up at the 1,600-meter distance. Sebok placed 12th at the 2015 cross country state meet. Her best times are 19:33.00 (5K), 5:30.32 (1,600) and 11:43.65 (3,200).
 
Watkins, who prepped at Nicholas County High School, won the regional title and placed second at the Kentucky state cross country meet in 2015. In track, she was sixth in the state for 3,200-meters and eighth at 1,600-meters. Her personal bests are 18:55.15 (5K), 5:33.56 (1,600) and 12:06.81 (3,200).
 
The newest women's signees join fall additions Alison Chinn and Sierra Poppell. The two new men join Farah Abdulkarim on the roster for next season. Abdulkarim enrolled already and is participating in track and field this spring.
