COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -
Hannah Murphy homered in the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough as Morehead State softball fell 5-1 in the finale of their three-game set at Tennessee Tech on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Eagles fall in all three games at TTU and move to 23-25 on the year and 10-12 in league play. Tennessee Tech improves to 22-29 and 13-11 in the OVC.
Morehead State fell behind early as the Golden Eagles scored runs in the first three innings.
Their runs in the first and the second came with two outs. In the second, a double down the right field line scored two and then Tennessee Tech added a two-run home run which followed a two-out error that extended the inning. They then added a solo run in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-0.
After threatening to score in the third and the fourth innings, but failing to scratch across a run, Murphy led off the fifth with her fourth home run of the season to right-center field.
Morehead State then went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings.
Mackenzie Grossmann (8-16) picked up the loss after allowing two hits and four runs, just two of which were earned, in 1.2 innings. She walked two and struck out none.
The Eagles managed four hits on the game. Murphy finished 1-for-3 with a home run.
