Men's Basketball signs Soufiyane Diakite

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Soufiyane Diakite, a 6-foot-6 forward from Cowley County Community College has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Morehead State men's basketball program. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately.

"He's an undersized four-man that is very athletic. He's a tough rebounder, he can score in a variety of ways, and he can dribble, pass and shoot it," said head coach Sean Woods. "I love his mentality and believe he'll fit in really well with our team both on and off the court. He's a great kid, a great student, and he's relentless on the basketball court."

Diakite averaged 13.0 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds as a sophomore in 2015-16. He shot 47 percent from the field and showed the ability to step back and knock down shots, connecting on 20 three-pointers. He scored double digit points 20 times and scored a season-high 28 points, while knocking down 10-of-18 from the field and 8-of-11 from the line, against Dodge City on Jan. 2.

A native of Bronx, N.Y., Diakite was named All-Jayhawk Conference Second Team following his sophomore season.

As a freshman, he averaged 9.6 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Diakite attended Wings Academy in Bronx, N.Y. prior to playing two seasons at Cowley College.

Diakite is the fourth player to sign with Morehead State men's basketball for the upcoming school year. The Eagles have advanced to the OVC Tournament semifinals in seven of the last eight years. Last season, Morehead State finished 23-14 and advanced to the College Basketball Invitational Finals.
