MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State volleyball remains home this weekend to host the Comfort Inn-vitational during Family Weekend.

They open with two matches on Friday as they face Coppin State at 11 a.m. and close out the day against Kent State at 7 p.m. ET. The Eagles then face Montana at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.

"We have an opportunity to play a lot of different teams with different styles, there should be some very good competition" said head coach Jaime Gordon. "One thing I hope that we take away from the upcoming weekend is that inconsistency is not going to get the job done."

The Eagles are hoping to get back on track at home this weekend. After starting the season at 2-1, they have lost six of their last seven.

"Parts of our game last weekend were solid. I thought our serving definitely improved, but our defense and serve receive, which has been pretty solid for us, was a bit shaky at times and we left a lot of points on the board," said Gordon.

Last weekend, freshman Danielle McCarson was named to the Eagle Challenge All-Tournament Team after recording a team-high 19 digs in the finale. She finished with a team-high 51 digs for the tournament and ranks sixth in the OVC with 4.0 digs per set.

"Danielle has been a spark plug for us. She really gives full energy every single play, she's incredibly vocal, and she gives our attackers great information," said Gordon. "Her level of pursuit on long rallies is fantastic. No one wanted it to play out this way, but I think her sitting out with an injury last season gave her an opportunity to get a new perspective on the game and I think she was able to learn a lot."

Sophomore Maddie Fella managed a career-best 14 kills, while hitting an impressive .448, in the win over Appalachian State. On the season, she is hitting .268, which ranks seventh in the OVC.

"We had an outstanding breakout performance from Maddie on the right side," said Gordon. "We've been expecting this from her, we know what she is capable of."

The three matches this weekend will be the Eagles last tune-up as they open conference play on Friday, Sept. 23 at Jacksonville State.

"Every match and every practice is an opportunity to get ready for conference play," said Gordon. "We schedule our non-conference opponents to give us an opportunity to face different types of styles. This weekend is our final chance to fine tune things and implement some offensive and defensive components."

Live stats for all Comfort Inn-vitational matches will be available at MSUEagles.com. Live video of the Eagles' matches against Coppin State and Kent State on Friday will be available on the OVC Digital Network.
