MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State women's basketball (14-5, 4-2 Ohio Valley Conference) fell to Belmont (14-5, 6-0 OVC) by a score of 91-59 on Saturday night at Johnson Arena. Since seeing a nine-game win streak snapped in the Eagles' first conference loss of the season last Wednesday, Morehead State has dropped two straight for the first time in 2016-17.
"We had a great run," said head coach
Greg Todd. "It was a great start (to the season). But, it gets tougher as you get into the OVC."
The Eagles never led in Saturday's contest, thanks in part to 23-of-80 (.288) shooting from the field. Morehead State nailed just one three-point field goal for only the third time all season, while conceding 13 blocked shots to the Belmont defense.
"I was disappointed in our offense," Todd said. "But, they're a great team. There aren't any easy games in our conference."
The Eagles were led by sophomore guard
Miranda Crockett, who logged nine points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
Darianne Seward, the only Morehead State player to score in double-digits, tallied 13 points and four assists without a single turnover.
Brooke Todd anchored the Eagles' presence down low, coming away with six points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in 29 minutes off the bench. Bruins frontcourt duo Kylee Smith and Sally McCabe combined for 48 points between them.
Morehead State will have a full week off before returning to action next Saturday. The Eagles are scheduled for tip-off with Eastern Kentucky (7-11, 4-1 OVC) at 5:30 p.m. ET at Johnson Arena.
