MOREHEAD, Ky. – In its 2017 finale at Jayne Stadium, Morehead State soccer (3-11-1, 2-5-1 Ohio Valley Conference) welcomes Belmont (9-5-1, 5-3 OVC) on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
"We're not going to put pressure on ourselves," said MSU head coach
Warren Lipka. "We're just going to go out and play, and work as hard as we can. We're not giving up. We're not letting down."
Morehead State enters Friday on the heels of back-to-back one-goal losses to cap off a five-game road streak. Last Sunday at Jacksonville State, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead into halftime by way of a
Morgan Treser header off a corner kick from
Cara Maher. The Gamecocks went on to pour in two second-half goals, however, delivering Morehead State its third straight setback with only two matches remaining in the regular season.
Despite having celebrated senior day with a 4-2 win over UT Martin on Sept. 24, Friday marks the last career home match for a pair of Morehead State defenders.
Tayler Stivers will be making her 74th appearance in blue and gold, while former Northern Kentucky transfer Maria Lavatori will be suiting up for the 16th time.
"Marisa is just coming into her stride," Lipka said. "I wish I had her another year or two. Tayler has been an unbelievable person, player, and captain. The kid just keeps on going and going. There's not going to be any replacing her. We're going to miss (both players) next year."
Eagles goalkeeper
Michelle Washburn enters Friday's match with 87 saves on the season, including six in last Sunday's matchup with Jacksonville State. The 5-foot-9 junior needs just four more to enter the top 10 of the highest single-season save marks in school history.
Morehead State's contest with Belmont will be broadcast live on the
OVC Digital Network.
