MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State men's basketball (12-12, 8-3 Ohio Valley Conference) seeks their season-high fourth straight victory when they travel to face Eastern Kentucky on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET.
Just a little over two weeks ago, the Eagles downed the Colonels 80-54 at Johnson Arena.
"EKU is playing really well right now and it's always tough to play on the road, so we can't look back at the result at our place earlier in the year," said head coach
Preston Spradlin. "We have to prepare and we have to have a great mindset to go in there hungry and try to get a win."
Last season, the Eagles had three winning streaks of our four games or more including a seven-game winning streak at the end of the regular season.
Overall, Morehead State has won six of their last seven games, eight of their last 10, and 10 of their last 14 to pull back to .500 after starting the season at 2-8. At 8-3 in league play, they have the second best record in the conference and currently stand as the No. 3 seed in the OVC Tournament.
In the 101-100 overtime win over Murray State on Wednesday night, the Eagles eclipsed the 100-point plateau for the fourth time this season. They are 10-2 when scoring more than 80 points.
They had 23 assists in the win over the Racers and are averaging 16.9 assists per game, which leads the league and ranks 20th in country.
Senior forward
DeJuan Marrero finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds on Wednesday night, marking his 13th double-double of the season, which leads the OVC and 17th in the country. He has double-doubles in six of his last seven games.
Senior forward
Treshaad Williams is shooting 73 percent (75-103) on the season and 72 percent (39-54) in OVC play, both of which lead the league. He made 26 straight field goal attempts at Johnson Arena, including the game-winner vs. TSU, prior to missing his first shot in the first game against EKU.
In the win over the Colonels, he scored 22 points, just two shy of his career-high, shooting 9-of-12 from the floor and grabbing seven rebounds.
Eastern Kentucky owns a 108-79 all-time advantage against Morehead State, but the Eagles have won three straight games. Last year, the Eagles swept the season series, marking their first season sweep against the Colonels since 2011-12.
The contest will air live on the OVC Digital Network and Chuck Mraz and Jason Blanton will have the call on the OVC Digital Network.
