CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – With just six regular season games remaining on the schedule, Morehead State women's basketball (17-6, 7-3 Ohio Valley Conference) prepares for a matchup with Southeast Missouri (10-13, 4-6 OVC) on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The Eagles are coming off a 73-59 win over Murray State last Saturday, marking Morehead State's last contest at Johnson Arena for two weeks.
Miranda Crockett led the way with 18 points, though defense was the driving force in the wire-to-wire victory.
Forwards
Shay Steele and
Brooke Todd combined for 10 blocks between them, moving Todd to the No. 4 spot on the school's all-time single-season blocks list. The Eagles held Murray State to 20-of-68 (.294) shooting, leading by as many as 28 points late in the third quarter.
Redshirt-senior
Brianna McQueen headlines the MSU scoring attack, posting a team-best 13.2 points per outing. The Preseason All-OVC honoree has scored at least 20 points in two of the past three games, while dropping 15 points in last Wednesday's win over the Racers.
Crockett and
Eriel McKee are the only other Eagles averaging over 11 points a game, while McKee adds a team-high 7.7 rebounds, as well. Redshirt-sophomore
Darianne Seward ranks first in the conference with 5.8 assists in OVC play.
With a win at Southeast Missouri, Morehead State would complete a perfect 6-0 record against what was formerly the West Division of the OVC. Last season, the Redhawks snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Eagles with an 89-79 victory at Johnson Arena.
SEMO has posted just a 5-6 record at home this season, while Morehead State has tallied a 5-4 record on the road. No matter this weekend's outcome, Morehead State will remain at second place in the OVC. Saturday's matchup will be broadcast live on the
OVC Digital Network.
