MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State softball swept Alderson Broaddus (W. Va.) on Tuesday afternoon to extend their season-high winning streak to nine games and to move their record to 16-7 on the year.
It marks their longest winning streak since they won 11 straight in 2009.
In the first game, the Eagles got a two-run home run from sophomore 
Lindsay Ward in the second inning and a three-run shot from sophomore 
Ellen Barrett in the third as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead.
They then tacked on three more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 12-0 and the game was called following the top of the fifth.
Junior 
Chelsea McManaway didn't allow a hit or a walk in five strong innings as she picked up her ninth win of the season. The lone Battler base runner reached on a hit by pitch. She struck out 13 batters.
The Eagles finished with 12 runs on nine hits. Senior 
Kayla McGuffey and junior 
Robyn Leighton had multi-hit games.
In game two, the Eagles got two runs in the first, second, and third innings en route to winning 10-2 in five innings.
Sophomore 
Allison Rager hit a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning and picked up the win in relief. She went 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit and a walk, while striking out two. At the plate, she finished 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs, and two runs batted in.
McGuffey also had a three-hit game, going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, and an RBI.
Morehead State opens conference play next weekend with doubleheaders at Austin Peay on Saturday and Murray State on Sunday.
