MOREHEAD, Ky. - After opening the season with their first 16 games on the road, Morehead State softball opens the home portion of their schedule this weekend with three games against Radford.
They will play at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. ET on Friday and then conclude the series at noon on Saturday.
The Eagles enter the weekend series with a 9-7 record and have compiled wins against the likes of Penn State and St. John's.
"I'm very happy with the way that we have started the season. We're competing, we're finding ways to manufacture runs, and we're finding ways to win games. A lot of that is coming via the long ball right now, we've had a lot of timely big hits with home runs that are happening at the right time," said head coach
David Williams.
Last weekend, it was sophomore
Allison Rager's three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning that propelled Morehead State to a 5-4 win over St. John's. She also had the game-winning single in the 7-6 extra inning win over East Tennessee State and a walk-off home run in the 1-0 win against Cleveland State.
On the season, she is batting a team-high .412 and leads the team with 21 hits and 14 runs scored. She has three doubles, three home runs, and 10 runs batted in.
Overall, the Eagles have 13 home runs in 16 games this season, while limiting opponents to just five home runs.
Junior
Robyn Leighton leads the team with six home runs and 19 runs batted in, which ranks second and fourth in the OVC, respectively.
"I knew we'd have some home run potential this season, but players are hitting them at the right moments," said Williams.
