CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Morehead State beach volleyball captured another victory on Saturday as they split their pair of matches as the Governor Beach Bash. The team finished its inaugural season at 2-16.

"I was really proud of the way our team competed today. I thought our performances in both matches really showed our growth as a team but also individually," said head coach Jaime Gordon. "It was fun to watch these players progress over the past month, as they are competing and executing as beach volleyball players.

The Eagles captured the first match of the day over UT Martin with a 5-0 victory. Flight pairings of Sydney Schuler and Hope Rillema, Bailey Nichol and Jordan Jones, Chandler Clark and Liz Allen, and Alyssa Cecil and Karlee Reynolds secured eight of the nine sets played to give Morehead State the victory. The fifth flight was won on a forfeit as UT Martin's roster numbers did not allow them to field a flight pairing.

Morehead State dropped the second match of the day against Austin Peay, losing 4-1. Redshirt sophomore Jessie Wachtman and junior Alli Evans captured a flight victory from the fifth flight. Redshirt freshman Danielle McCarson and sophomore Maddie Fella captured their set as they competed as the extra pairing.

Gordon added, "This has been a significant improvement from our opening matches of the season. I really think our match with Austin Peay could have easily gone either way. We were incredibly tight at the third flight and had opportunities at both one and four."

The action on Saturday marked the final matches for seniors Bailey Nichol, Hope Rillema, and Sydney Schuler.

"I think this group of young women has done an outstanding job of starting a long tradition of beach volleyball at Morehead State," concluded Gordon.
