31 Newcomers Join Football Eagles for 2017 Season
MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State football program has added 31 newcomers for the 2017 season.
 
The newest offensive Eagles include six receivers, five linemen, two quarterbacks, one running back and one tight end. On the defensive/special teams side, eight players are defensive backs. There are three kickers and two linemen. Three additions will suit up at linebacker.
 
Eleven of the newcomers hail from Kentucky with six joining the program from Ohio and four from Tennessee. Three additions are products of Georgia, and one each is from Michigan, Alabama, Indiana, California, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington D.C.

"Our staff has done an excellent job of finding quality athletes and students," said head coach Rob Tenyer. "We had some positions we targeted to fill roles for the future, and I feel like the quality of this class is outstanding. The athleticism and skill levels of all these players will benefit us greatly as a program."
 
Offensive Newcomers

DeVonte' Adams (WR, 6-0, 185, Fishers, Ind., Fishers HS)

Played for head coach Rick Wimmer at Fishers High School … Hauled in 25 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns as a junior … Named all-conference as a senior … Earned his team's MVP Award for basketball as a junior.
 
Matthew Blank (OL, 6-4, 290, California, Ky., Bishop Brossart HS)
Played for head coach Paul Wiggins, Jr. at Bishop Brossart High School where he was the team's Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior in 2016 … Helped BBHS to back-to-back playoff appearances and 17 wins in his last two seasons … Named KHSAA Academic All-State four times … Named to the 2016 Northern Kentucky All-A Team … Named all-district as a senior in 2016.
 
Keoki Bowes (RB, 5-9, 190, Lebanon, Tenn., Wilson Central HS)
Played for head coach Brad Dedman at Wilson Central High School … Rushed for 3,058 yards and scored 41 times on the ground in his career … Rushed for 1,221 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior … Twice named to the THSAA 6A All-Region Team … Named all-county as a senior … Was the Tennessee Titans and Wilson County Player of the Week as a junior.
 
Adam Cox (OL, 6-6, 270, Waddy, Ky., Shelby County HS)
Played for head coach Todd Shipley at Shelby County High School … Helped Shelby County to back-to-back regional championships … Named all-district honorable mention as a senior in 2016 … Named KHSAA Academic All-State four times.
 
Michael Davis (OL, 6-3, 265, Beavercreek, Ohio, Beavercreek HS)
Played for head coach Nic Black at Beavercreek High School … Named First-Team GWOC East as a senior in 2016 … Named All-Southwest Ohio D1 as a senior as well.
 
Logan Floyd (OL, 6-1, 275, Georgetown, Ky., Western Hills HS)
Played for head coach Don Miller at Western Hills High School … Led Western Hills to three consecutive district playoffs … Led Western Hills to its best record in school history as a senior … Named all-county offensive and defensive line as a junior and senior.
 
Gavin Ford (WR, 5-10, 175, Spring Hill, Tenn., Grace Christian Academy)
Played for head coach Rusty Smith at Grace Christian …A baseball player his first three years, he excelled in football as a senior … Had 621 receiving yards in 2016 … Scored nine touchdowns and also had 45 tackles … Returned a kickoff for a touchdown … Named all-district in football as a senior .. Played second base and shortstop on the diamond for four years … Father Eric played baseball at Jacksonville State and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1993.
 
Zach Hardin (QB, 6-3, 190, Richmond, Ky., Madison Central HS)
Played for head coach Mark Scenters at Madison Central High School … Passed for 5,825 yards and 59 touchdowns in his career … Passed for career-high 1,627 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior … Recorded four straight 1,000-yard passing seasons, including 1,503 as a sophomore in 2014 … Scored 10 rushing touchdowns in his prep career … Named all-district as a junior and senior … Won the WKYT Ball Report Scholar-Athlete of the Week in 2016.
 
Garrett Lawrence (TE, 6-2, 225, Louisville, Ky., Pleasure Ridge Park HS)
Played for head coach Jason Hiser at Pleasure Ridge Park … Hauled in 31 passes for 476 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2016 as a senior … Named all-district twice … Named NVC All-American in 2015 as a junior … Named Second-Team All-USA for Kentucky football in 2016.
 
Jacob Moss (WR, 5-9, 175, Santa Clarita, Calif., Santa Clarita Christian HS)
Played for head coach Garrick Moss at Santa Clarita Christian … Tallied 3,891 yards on 267 catches with 36 touchdowns in his career … Accumulated 5,856 all-purpose yards and 44 touchdowns for his career … Set a California State record for receiving yards in a quarterfinal playoff game with 380 … As a senior in 2016, had 112 catches for 1,61 yards and 14 touchdowns … Also rushed for 429 yards and six scores on the ground in 2016 … Versatility showed as he had six interceptions and blocked three field goals his senior year … Also returned 30 kicks for 487 yards and punted 26 times for a 44.5-yard average as a senior … Named All-Santa Clarita Valley as a senior … Named MaxPreps All-American and MaxPreps First-Team All-State … Named Los Angeles Daily News First-Team All-State.
 
Mark Pappas (QB, 6-2, 195, Avon Lake, Ohio, Avon Lake HS)
Played for head coach Dave Dlugosz at ALHS … Passed for 3317 yards and 33 touchdowns as a senior in 2016 on 637 completions … Named Third-Team All-State as a senior, as well as First-Team All-Conference … His uncle Dennis Lavelle was a quarterback at Michigan State.
 
Jacob Peters (WR, 6-3, 200, Canal Winchester, Ohio, Bloom Carroll HS)
Played for head coach Wade Bartholmew at Bloom Carroll … Compiled more than 1,500 receiving yards in high school … Totaled 1,021 yards on 38 catches as a senior in 2016 … Named First-Team All-Ohio as a senior in 2016 … Also named First-Team All-Central District and First-Team Al Mid-State League … Earned Academic Al-Ohio in 2016.
 
Raekwon Purdy (WR, 6-2, 215, Harrisburg, Pa., Central Dauphin East HS, Lackawanna JC)
Scored nine touchdowns in two seasons at Lackawanna JC … Team finished 18-2 in his two seasons and ranked in the top 10 nationally … Played for head coach Aaron Blanding at CDEHS … Had 33 catches for 433 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior in 2014 … Returned 10+ kicks for 50 or more yards and scored four times on special teams.
 
Gannon Starnes (OL, 6-3, 180, Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Wilson Central HS)
Played for head coach Brad Dedman at Wilson Central … Helped his team to an 8-3 record as a senior in 2016 … Named Honorable Mention All-Region and Academic All-State as a senior … Was selected to play to play in the Kentucky-Tennessee Border Bowl … Cousin Drew Harrington was a baseball star pitcher at Louisville and plays for the Atlanta Braves' organization.

Sugar Ray Wyche (SLOT, 5-10, 185, Louisville, Ky., Eastern HS)
Played for head coach Shaun Davis at EHS ... Named all-district in 2016 as a senior ... Named his team's special teams MVP in 2016.

Defensive/Special Teams Newcomers

CJ Austin (DB, 5-10, 165, Louisville, Ky., Ballard HS)
Played for head coaches Mike Copley and Mike Jackson at Ballard ... Compiled 56 tackles as a junior and senior ... Tallied four interceptions his final two seasons ... Was named Academic All-District.

Cameron Barrett (LB, 6-1 210, Dayton, Ky., Dixie Heights HS)
Played for head coach Dave Brossart at Dixie Heights … Lined up at running back and outside linebacker … Recorded 46 tackles and three pass breakups as a senior in 2016 … Rushed for more than 2,500 yards and scored 31 touchdowns on the ground in career … Had 1,270 rushing yards and 17 scores in the ground game as a freshman … Helped Dixie Heights to state runner-up finish in 2014 as a sophomore … Named Academic All-State twice.
 
Drew Carmichael (K, 5-11, 175, Grove City, Ohio, Central Crossing HS)
Head coach at Central Crossing was Chris Harr … As a junior in 2015, was 9-for-10 on field goals (school record total) and 21-for-22 on extra-point kicks … Nailed all 11 PAT tries as a sophomore … Averaged 42.1 yards on punts as a senior and 40.5 as a junior … Named Second-Team All-OCC punter in 2016 … Named Honorable Mention All-OCC kicker as a junior.
 
Daichi Castles (LB, 6-2, 245, Louisville, Ohio, Louisville HS)
Played for head coach John Demarco at Louisville High School … Recorded more than 100 career total tackles and had 25 tackles for loss in career … Tallied 19 sacks in his final two prep seasons … Also forced five fumbles as a junior and senior … Totaled 65 stops, including 10 for losses, in 2016 as a senior … Helped LHS win four consecutive NBC titles … Named First-Team All-Northeast Ohio as a senior as well as First-Team WHBC … Earned Second-Team All-Ohio in 2016.
 
Eldee Edwards III (DB, 6-0, 188, Washington D.C., Friendship Collegiate Academy)
Played for head coach Mike Hunter at FCA … Collected 165 career tackles … Intercepted eight career passes and scored three times … Had 31 career pass break ups … Helped FCA win the state championship in 2016 as a senior.
 
Andrew Foster (K, 6-3, 214, Knoxville, Tenn., Hardin Valley Academy)
Played for head coach Wes Jones at Hardin Valley ... Connected on 13 career field goals with a career-long of 49 yards … Had 78 career touchbacks on kickoffs … Averaged 37.6 yards on punts as a senior in 2016 with a long bomb of 59 yards … Also starred on the soccer pitch, collecting 16 assists and also playing goalkeeper.
 
Sam McDonogh (K, 5-9, 180, Louisville, Ky., Saint Xavier HS)
Played for head coach Will Wolford at Saint Xavier … Sustained an injury and missed senior year … Hit 11 of 14 field goals with a long boot of 43 yards as a junior in 2015 … Named Honorable Mention All-State and First-Team All-District in 2015 … Also earned First-Team All-Metro Area as a junior … Father Paul was a kicker and punter at University of Louisville.
 
Starr Hutcherson (DB, 6-0, 180, Fairhope, Ala., Fairhope HS)
Played for head coach Tim Carter at Fairhope High School … Recorded more than 70 total tackles in his career … Picked off three passes as a senior in 2016 … Named his school's Male Athlete of the Year in 2016 … Helped FHS to a regional title in 2014 … Also named all-county for wrestling in 2016.
 
Trent Johnson (DB, 5-10, 160, Acworth, Ga, North Cobb HS)
Played for head coach Shane Queen at North Cobb … Totaled 29 tackles and an interception as a senior in 2016 … Broke up nine passes his senior year … Helped NCHS to the third round of the state playoffs as a sophomore in 2014 and as a senior in 2016.

Caleb Montgomery (DB, 5-10, 180, McArthur, Ohio, Vinton County HS)
Played for head coach Jeff Downs at VCHS ... Finished with more than 80 career tackles in final two seasons ... Had 8.5 tackles for loss as a senior in 2016 ... Also forced four fumbles in 2016 ... Rushed for more than 300 yards in final two seasons as well ... Was a two-time all-conference selection.
 
Chrinovic Mukulu (DE, 6-1, 217, Lawrenceville, Ga., Discovery HS)
Played for head coach Efrem Hill at Discovery … Registered more than 100 tackles his final two seasons … Had 69 tackles and 15 sacks as a junior in 2015 … Totaled 57 tackles as a senior in 2016 … Also starred in wrestling and track and field … Threw personal best 40.8 meters in the discus his senior year … Had 35 wins in wrestling in two seasons.
 
Kirk Peterson (LB, 6-0, 227, Woodbridge, Va., Freedom HS)
Played for head coach Darryl Overton at Freedom … Played every down on offense, defense and special teams his entire senior season … Accumulated 350 career total tackles, including 59 tackles for loss … Notched 154 tackles, including 27 behind the line of scrimmage his junior year in 2015 … Tallied 124 stops, including 24 for losses, his senior campaign in 2016 … Helped his team share the 6AAA conference title in 2016 … Named First-Team All-Conference as a junior and senior.

Tyler Reese (DB, 5-10, 170, Snellville, Ga., Shiloh HS)
Played for head coach Ryan Andrews at Shiloh ... Tallied seven interceptions and nine forced fumbles in career ... Recorded more than 200 career tackles ... Returned two interceptions for touchdowns, including one as a senior in 2016 ... Won his team's Most Valuable Player Award in 2016.
 
Malik Richards (DB, 5-11, 165, Versailles, Ky., Woodford County HS)
Played for head coach Dennis Johnson at WCHS … Played as a defensive back and receiver … Compiled more than 1,000 all-purpose yards as a senior in 2016 … Collected two interception returns for touchdowns (99 and 100 yards) in his career … Named Honorable Mention All-State as a senior … Was a three-time First-Team Academic All-State.
 
Cam'ron Starks (DB, 5-11, 185, Detroit, Mich., Renaissance Phoenix HS)
Played for head coach Lou Beatty at Renaissance Phoenix … Notched 229 career total tackles, including 24 behind the line of scrimmage … Also intercepted 12 career passes and broke up 27 passes … Recovered 11 fumbles and forced seven in his four-year career … Had 1,284 all-purpose yards as a senior in 2016 … Top season came in 2015 as a junior when he totaled 74 tackles and had eight stops for losses … Named Second-Team All-State by the News Herald in 2016 … Honorable Mention All-State pick by the Detroit Free Press … Two-time First-Team All-City selection … Three-year team captain.
 
Dillon Swank (DT, 6-2, 261, Elizabethtown, Ky., Elizabethtown HS)
Played for head coach Mark Brown at Elizabethtown High School … Named Second-Team All-State as a senior in 2016 … Named Honorable Mention All-State in 2015 … Named the area Lineman of the Year as a junior … Helped EHS to three straight district titles and two consecutive region championships, including a 13-1 campaign in 2015.
