MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State soccer (0-3) begins the first leg of a three-game road stretch at Kennesaw State (2-0-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
"We play a tough non-conference schedule," said head coach
Warren Lipka. "These teams are good and they're testing us. We've got to play to our strengths, athleticism and our speed. To do that, we had to change the style that we are playing."
The Eagles have yet to seal a victory, despite never trailing by halftime of any match this season. Junior goalkeeper
Michelle Washburn's play has been the highlight of the 2017 campaign. The Georgetown, Ky. native's 8.0 saves per game and 24 total saves both lead the Ohio Valley Conference, ranking 13th and 18th respectively on a national level.
"That's a bright spot for us, is Michelle's play," Lipka said. "She's kept us in the game. We've got good communication with our leadership group. It's time for us to start stepping up and seeing those results."
Friday marks the first meeting between Morehead State and Kennesaw State. The Owls will be making their home debut, despite coming away unscathed in four games on the road this season.
"It's not a matter of where we're starting or how we're starting, it's how we're going to finish this thing off," said Lipka. "If we start slow, so be it. Let's make sure we finish strong. We've got to keep building on where we want to go at the end of the year."
