MOREHEAD, Ky. –
The Morehead State cross country teams both finished third as they hosted the Eagle Opener Friday night at the former Sunnybrook Golf Course.

Sophomore Farah Abdulkarim led the men's squad, while sophomore Alison Chinn paced the women's team.

"Overall I think it went pretty well, conditions were rough out here, but the kids did a really great job competing," head coach Stephen Picucci said. "We are pleased with it, the season is just getting started, and we had a lot of fans out supporting us so it was great."

Abdulkarim crossed the finish line in seventh place at 15:29.2, among the 48-runner field.

Chinn covered the 5K course in 19:30.2. Sophomore Caitlin Cunningham wasn't too far behind crossing the finish line in 19:38.6.

In the men's race, the Eagles also placed two more runners in the top 15. Junior Justin Moakler was eighth at 15:30.8, and junior Shane Rigsby was 13th at 15:40.8. Rounding out the top 25 across the finish line for Morehead State were sophomore Aaron Wier (15:51.9), senior Dylan Rich (15:58.3) and junior Jordan Carrington (16:02.4).

Senior Taylor Montgomery (20:03.7), junior Gloria Corona-Luna (20:08.8), freshman Madison Pelfrey (20:14.1), and freshman Maggie Kiper (20:15.9) finished in the top 25 for the Eagles.

Eastern Kentucky won both races. Kentucky was in second, and Marshall also competed.

Both teams are back in action on Friday, Sept. 15 at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.
