BOX SCORES (BUCK | SFU)
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Junior setter
Jordan Jones posted her second triple-double of the 2017 season, and the Morehead State volleyball team defeated Bucknell 3-0 and St. Francis (Pa.) 3-1 today to win the Red-Flash Classic. Jones was named tournament Most Valuable Player.
The Eagles are now 9-4. Junior middle blocker
Jessie Wachtman was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
"Today was a challenging test for us. Playing two strong teams back to back was tough, but I am proud of the way our team handled it," said head coach
Jaime Gordon. "We stepped up our execution from yesterday's performance and came with a more balanced attack. We also got back into a blocking groove which triggered a good transition offense. For the first time this season we were truly effective in defending the right side attack, and that was against an exceptional one from St. Francis. We once again had good production from Jordan and (freshman right-side/middle) Olivia (Lohmeier), and Jessie had an all around outstanding day. Another person who played really well this weekend that may get lost in the box scores is
Chandler Clark. She is doing very well running her three rotations of offense and is learning the flow of the game and her hitters."
Against the host Red Flash tonight, Jones recorded a team-high 16 kills, 21 assists and 12 digs while hitting .480 on 25 swings. Wachtman added 13 winners and hit .429. Freshman outside hitter
Lauren Rokey produced a double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs while hitting .296.
Junior middle blocker
Maddie Fella, the OVC block leader, sent back seven rejections and was part of a 12-block effort for the Eagles.
In the morning action against Bucknell, it was Lohmeier who excelled. She smacked in 14 kills with just two errors for a .522 attack efficiency. Wachtman also added seven kills on a .545 hitting effort. And Rokey landed eight kills on a .333 hitting day.
Morehead State was extremely efficient on offense, hitting .326.
The Eagles open OVC play on Friday at Belmont.
