MOREHEAD, Ky -- It's one of the longest running series the Morehead State men's basketball program has been involved in, and lately it's been one of the most successful for the Eagles. MSU will try for its ninth win in the last 10 contests against Austin Peay when the Eagles meet the Governors in Clarksville Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
Morehead State (6-14/2-7 OVC) put up a monumental fight before falling 87-81 at Murray State Thursday evening. The Eagles scored a season-best 55 points in the second half. Austin Peay (11-10/6-3 OVC) won 90-84 over Eastern Kentucky. The Govs boast one of the top freshmen in the league in Terry Taylor (15 points/game).
The game will be carried live on WIVY-96.3 FM and MSUEagles.com and can be watched on the OVC Digital Network. Following the action, the Eagles will be back home next week to host Tennessee State and Belmont.
GAME NOTES
THE AUSTIN PEAY SERIES
Morehead State leads the all-time series with Austin Peay 55-51, a series that began in 1963-64. The Eagles have won eight of the last nine against the Govs and are 12-2 in the last 14 versus APSU since 2008-09.
THREE-POINT STREAK GOES ON
Morehead State has made at least one three-pointer in 363 consecutive games, dating back to Feb. 13, 2007 when the Eagles had an 0-for-17 day versus Jacksonville State.
TENACIOUS "D" OUTSIDE THE ARC
In the nine OVC games so far, Morehead State finds itself as the best three-point defensive team in the league. The Eagles only allow conference foes to hit 30 percent outside the arc (59-of-199).
OH SO CLOSE
Morehead State may be only 2-7 in the OVC so far, but in those seven setbacks the Eagles have only lost by an average margin of 4.7 points. All seven losses have been by nine points or less and three have been by three points or less.
COACHES VS. CANCER WEEK
For the past 25 years, the Coaches vs. Cancer program, in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, has united coaches and fans nationwide to help the American Cancer Society defeat a common enemy – cancer. Morehead State's coaches will be wearing suits and sneakers this weekend in celebration of the Coaches vs. Cancer cause.
HOLD THAT LEAD
Morehead State has held a halftime lead six times this season and has won five of those times. The Eagles are also 6-1 when they hold onto an advantage with five minutes left in the game.
HARRIS HEATING UP
Junior forward
Lamontray Harris leads the Eagles with 14.6 points per game in OVC contests and has scored in double figures in seven straight games. Harris had double-doubles in four straight games from Jan. 11-20. He became only the third Eagle player since 2010-11 to accomplish that feat, joining
DeJuan Marrero (2016-17) and Kenneth Faried (2010-11).
TURNOVER ANOMALY
Despite averaging 17 turnovers per game, Morehead Statye has won two games this season when committing more than 25 mistakes. They had 28 turnovers but beat Central Arkansas 98-94 on Dec. 17. In the 74-55 win over Tennessee Tech on Jan. 20, MSU turned it over 26 times.
THE KING'S COURT
Sophomore
Londell King ranks fourth in the conference with 8.4 rebounds per game in OVC games. King leads the Eagles with five double-double effort this season.
