Lauren Rokey's Season-High 16 Kills Not Enough as Volleyball Falls at SIUE

BOX SCORE (PDF)

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. –
Having an uncharacteristic offensive night, Morehead State volleyball dropped a close, tight match at SIU Edwardsville on Friday night. The Cougars (5-16, 4-5 OVC) took the match over the Eagles (16-6, 7-2 OVC) by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, and 25-17.

Throughout the match, Morehead State hit a paltry .089, committing 30 attack errors in the match. The attack efficiency figure marks the lowest for Morehead State since connecting for a .126 clip at Austin Peay on Sept. 29. The Eagles 30 attack errors stand as the second-highest single game total this season, only outdone by the 36 committed at West Virginia, a game that saw the team's only other sub. 100 hitting efficiency of the season.

Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Rokey put together a season-best night for Morehead State, collecting a season-high 16 kills for the Eagles. Fellow sophomore outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier joined Rokey in double-figures, registering 13 kills of her own. By reaching double-digit terminations, Lohmeier has recorded 10 or more kills for the third straight match, bringing her within one match of her longest double-figure streak of the season.

Elsewhere offensively, redshirt sophomore setter Chandler Clark continued her double-double streak, recording her 10th of the season, including at least one in all nine weeks of play for Morehead State. She dished out 34 assists in the four-set match while also collecting 13 digs.

Pacing the back row for Morehead State, freshman defensive specialist Olivia Montelisciani dug up a career-high 14 balls, leading a unit that scooped up 72 opponent attacks. Freshman libero Allison Whitten added 12 digs while redshirt sophomore outside hitter Liz Allen contributed 10 digs of her own, giving the Eagles four players in double-figures on the evening.

At the net, Morehead State deterred nine total Cougar attacks led by senior middle blocker Maddie Fella's five total blocks, all assists. Redshirt senior middle blocker Jessie Wachtman turned away four shots of her own while Rokey (three), Clark and Jones (two apiece), and Lohmeier (one) each stymied SIUE attacks.

Morehead State returns to the court tomorrow evening as they look to return to the win column. The Eagles face the Panthers of Eastern Illinois at 8 p.m ET Saturday to end the Illinois leg of the team's five-game road trip.
