Morehead State (3-7/2-5 PFL)Â will look to end the year on a high note after dropping three consecutive games. MSU has won its last three season finales and the last four final PFL games of the year. Drake is wrapping up a 10-game schedule having had the season opener canceled in progress. The Bulldogs are 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
QUOTING COACH TENYER
On the challenges Drake presents
"They are a really good team overall. Their defense has been outstanding. (Drake head coach) Rick (Fox) and I coached at Centre together for a few years, and he's a special teams guy. They are really solid in that area. We'll have our work cut out for us."
On the legacy of the senior class
"Their legacy is one that has brought our team closer together. Even though we have fallen short here this second half of the season, I feel like this group has been really invested. We have had very, very good leadership from them, and it will be very difficult to replace that kind of leadership."Â
GAME NOTES
THE SERIES WITH DRAKE
Morehead State trails 8-3 in the all-time series with Drake. The last win in the series (and the last time the teams played in Morehead), the Eagles won 38-35 in triple overtime in 2015. The Eagles have seen success over the years against Drake at home, a 3-1 advantage.
Â
JUST YOU AND ME
Senior quarterback
Lawson Page is one of only two quarterbacks in the Football Championship Subdivision to record multiple
games with at least 200 yards passing and 100 yards rushing with the other being Western Carolina's Tyrie Adams (who has three now). Page has three 200-100
games in his career. See the chart on page 3 for the complete list of 200-100
games by FCS QBs in 2018.
SAME(S) CITY
Saturday's
game will be bittersweet for three offensive standouts. Redshirt senior QB
Lawson Page, redshirt senior SLOT
Nathan Sames and redshirt senior OL
Kris Jones all came to MSU the same season (2014) from Shelbyville, Ky., and Collins High School. The trio helped their high school win a state championship in 2013.
STRIVING FOR THAT 5K
Senior quarterback
Lawson Page is the ninth signal caller in program history to eclipse 4,000 career passing yards, and with 237 yards against Drake, he would become just the eighth to reach 5,000 yards in his career.
THE TOTAL PACKAGE
Lawson Page needs just 148 more total offensive yards to finish his career with 6,000 or more. He has a team-best 693 rushing yards this year and has eclipsed 1,000 ground yards for his career. Page has also been responsible for 55 career touchdowns (36 passing, 19 rushing).
WE NEED SAYYID
Senior safety
Sayyid Kanu was named the official PFL Defensive Player of the Week and also earned the accolade from College Sports Madness after the Valparaiso
game. He enters his final collegiate
game with 22 career tackles and 12.5 for losses, in addition to 13 passes defended.
ONE OF THE BEST RECEIVERS TO EVER TO DON THE BLUE AND GOLD
Jarin Higginbotham is putting the finishing touches on an incredible career, entering today with 11 career catches for 2,054 yards and 15 scores. He is just the third player in program history to reach 2,000 career yards in the passing
game and also currently ranks fifth in career receptions on MSU's career list. Even more amazing is he has done this without having recorded a catch in his freshman year in 2015.
KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES
Senior offensive lineman
Kris Jones is expected to make his 33rd consecutive start against Drake. In his career, he has been a part of a front line that has led the PFL in passing twice (2015, 2016) and this year in rushing (among non-option offense teams).
DUNCAN AIN'T FLUNKIN
Senior cornerback
Brandyn Duncan sustained an injury after the first two
games as a freshman in 2014, but when he returned in 2015, he has appeared in all 43
games since then, including 33 straight starts. He has 29 career passes defended, 152 career tackles and four career pickoffs.
FOSTER ON THE ROSTER
Sophomore punter
Andrew Foster has put together a solid season, averaging 42.1 yards per punt with 11 inside the 20-yard line and nine booms of more than 50 yards. He ranks second in the PFL in punting average. His long smash of 73 yards against San Diego was just five yards shy of Don Rardin's school-record length set in 1978.
THANK YOU FANS
Morehead State has averaged 4,844 fans per home game in 2018, and the Eagles will once again finish as the attendance leaders in the league. It will mark the fifth straight year Morehead State has led the Pioneer League in attendance.
