SCHEDULE
MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State softball team will host a mid-season tournament and play 23 home games in 2019. The season will be the first for the Eagles under new head coach
Samantha Jones.
Â
"We are really excited for this great schedule we have lined up this year," said Jones. "Our team has really been working hard all fall and can't wait to compete against some great competition. We believe our non-conference slate will challenge us and have us prepared for a tough Ohio Valley Conference."
Â
The Eagles kick off their season with the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament at Kennesaw State. They will face the host Owls in the inaugural game of the season on February 8, at 7:30 p.m. ET. Morehead State will also face Chattanooga twice (Feb. 9 & 10) and Ohio (Feb. 9) at the KSU event.
Â
The road-tournament trend continues for MSU over the next two weekends as they take part in the Eagle Round Robin event hosted by Georgia Southern (Feb. 15-17) and a tournament in Hampton, Virginia that will be co-hosted by Norfolk State and Hampton.
Â
Following the Hampton/Norfolk State tournament, the Eagles return home to host their first homestand of the season. Â Morehead State will play host to a midweek double-header against Marshall (March 6) and a three-game weekend series against Akron (Mar. 9-10).
Â
The Eagles then hit the road to face off against Atlantic Coast Conference member Louisville in a double-header on Mar. 12. It will be the first meeting with the Cardinals since the 2011 season.
Â
Morehead State will host the Eagle Classic before jumping into conference play on Mar. 16-17. MSU will host St. Bonaventure and Bowling Green in the classic.
Â
The Eagles other non-conference games include two home double-headers and a road double-header. Wright State (Mar. 19) and Northern Kentucky (Mar. 26) will come to University Field while MSU will travel to Dayton (April. 3).
Â
Morehead State will play 22 OVC contests, with 10 at home and 12 on the road.
Â
The OVC Tournament will take place May 8-11 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
