GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior guard
Aliyah Jeune came off the bench and scored a game-high 28 points to lift Morehead State to a 72-67 win over North Carolina A&T on Friday evening at Corbett Sports Center.
Jeune finished the game 11-for-15 from the field and splashed home 5-of-7 shots from behind the arc in her debut performance as an Eagle against the Aggies.
The Eagles battled back from a 22-13 first-quarter deficit to tie things up at 34 going into the locker room at the halftime break. Jeune sparked the comeback with 16 first-half points, including nine from deep.
The Eagles picked things up defensively down the stretch as well after the first quarter and held the Aggies to a 24-of-59 (.407) night from the field. They also caused 29 turnovers by the home team led by defense from senior guard
Miranda Crockett who had seven steals.
Senior forward
Tierra McGowan pulled down 11 rebounds for Morehead State. It was her 15th career game with double-digit rebounds.
Also reaching double figures in the scoring column with Jeune were senior guards Crockett (18) and
Crystal Simmons-Cozar (11).
North Carolina A&T, who are picked to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and are ranked 30th in the collegeinsider.com women's preseason mid-major poll, falls to 0-1 after losing their season opener.
The Eagles begin 1-0 for the second consecutive season.
Morehead State continues play on the road when they travel to Gardner-Webb on Sunday. The Eagles and Bulldogs tip off at Paul Porter Arena at 3:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on 96.3 WIVY and streamed on ESPN +.
