BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Morehead State softball senior pitcher
Chelsea McManaway allowed just two hits while striking out eight in a 3-1 victory Saturday afternoon against Bucknell on day two of the Campbell Stampede.

"We received another solid performance in the circle from McManaway and the defense backed her up, as well," said head coach
David Williams.

McManaway went the full seven innings in the victory, her fourth (4-0) of the 2018 campaign.

Cheyenne Meyer put the Eagles on the board first with a two-out single in the top of the first that plated
Taylor Wheeler from third base. Wheeler led-off the game with a walk and advanced on a pair of groundouts.

The Bison tied the game in the fifth inning with their lone run, scoring with bases loaded on a fielder's choice play. McManaway escaped the inning, getting out number three by striking out a batter swinging.

In the sixth,
Ellen Barrett doubled down the left field line to score pinch-runner
Allison Davis from second for the go-ahead.

Hannah Murphy stepped to the plate in the seventh and drove in the game's final run, scored by Barrett, with a two-out single.

The senior infielder Barrett finished the day as the only Eagle with multiple hits, going 2-for-2 with a double and one RBI.

Paige Scruggs,
Allison Rager,
Kalle Coleman, and
Robyn Leighton also collected hits in the game.

"I am very pleased with our patience at the plate and offensive efficiency," said Williams after the eight-hit day for Morehead State.

The win improved Morehead State to 3-0 in the Campbell Stampede and 6-1 on the season.

The Eagles will return to action in Buies Creek Sunday at 11 a.m. ET against James Madison. The Dukes (3-2) are a perennial top-25 program. The game will be the fourth and final game for Morehead State in the Campbell Stampede.
