MOREHEAD, Ky. - Despite a second consecutive 20-point outing by senior forward
Eriel McKee, Morehead State women's basketball had its four-game winning streak broken by Ohio Valley Conference-leading Belmont in a 83-62 contest on Saturday evening at Johnson Arena.
The defeat dropped the Eagles to 17-8 overall and 8-4 in OVC play. The Bruins are now 22-3 and sport an undefeated conference record of 12-0.
The Eagles were unable to find rhythm offensively, shooting 24-of-68 (.353) from the field, while the Bruins hoisted 32-of-58 (.552). Belmont also dropped in 13 three-point field goals.
"(Belmont) is definitely everything they're built up to be," said head coach
Greg Todd. "We're really proud of our team so far this season and have a lot of good basketball ahead of us."
Morehead State did, however, have three players score in double-figures. McKee led the way with 20 points, sinking a team-high three shots from beyond the arc.Â
Miranda Crockett seconded McKee with 13 points. The junior guard also pulled down five rebounds and assisted three baskets.Â
Brooke Todd added 10 points, giving her a double-digit scoring total for the sixth time in the last seven games.
Morehead State will conclude its home stand next Thursday against Southeast Missouri. The Eagles defeated the Redhawks 59-56 on the road thanks to a long-range buzzer-beater by McKee on Jan. 11. Thursday's tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. ET.
