Softball scheduled for five games in three days at Winthrop

MOREHEAD, Ky.
– Morehead State softball prepares to head south this weekend for the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
 
The Eagles are scheduled to play five games against five different opponents.  Morehead State opens the weekend on Friday with back-to-back games. Game one against Norfolk State is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET immediately followed with a matchup against the Albany Great Danes at 1 p.m.  Saturday features two games as well against Youngstown State and host Winthrop. The Eagles will square off with Penguins at 11 a.m. and Winthrop at 3 p.m. Morehead State will conclude the invitational with a matchup against Sacred Heart Sunday at 10 a.m.

Due to staffing issues at Winthrop, the only game that will feature live stats or live updates on Twitter will be against Winthrop. All other game stats will be posted later in the evening on MSUEagles.com.
 
Senior pitcher Chelsea McManaway is entering the weekend after being honored by the Ohio Valley Conference as Pitcher of the Week for her effort last weekend at the Bobbie Bailey Memorial Tournament.  McManaway picked up two victories while recording a 1.00 ERA in 14.0 innings and also struck out 22 batters. The Wellston, Ohio native currently leads the OVC in strikeouts with 62.
 
Morehead State is paced at the plate by junior Allison Rager.  The utility player currently leads the team in batting average (.444), which ranks fifth in the OVC, and she has a team-high eight RBI.

The only two teams MSU has ever played in its history are Norfolk State and Youngstown State as the Eagles are 1-0 against both.

Following this weekend, MSU returns home next weekend to host IUPUI and Canisius in the Morehead State Classic.
