SORRENTO, Fla. – For the second consecutive event, the Morehead State women's golf team concluded play claiming a top-five finish. The Eagles finished the MSU Citrus Classic fifth of 14 teams. Due to weather, the three-day event was cut short, wrapping up with the 14 teams playing 36 of the planned 54 holes.
The Eagles posted scores of 311-307-618, completing the event 42 strokes over par. The two scores both are amongst the team's ten lowest round totals on the season. Their final round 307 ties for the third-lowest score of the season.
Senior
Sarah Debnekoff led the Eagles for the second straight event, carding scores of 75-73-148. She finished in a four-way tie for second, earning a spot on the all-tournament team for the second time this season. Debnekoff's finish also marks the highest finish of her career, her second consecutive event establishing the career mark. Her second round 73 also set a season low round.
Junior Ana Dieguez finished tied for 23rd, turning in scorecards of 79-76-155. Senior
Ebba Gustafsson turned in her highest finish of the year, finishing tied for 34th. She fashioned scores of 81-77-158 to claim her highest finish since the 2015-16 OVC Championships as a sophomore.
Sophomore
Gypsie Hutchinson carded scores of 78-81-159 to finish in a tie for 39th. Freshman
Barbara Roether rounded out the Eagles' five-some by turning in scores of 79-82-161, finishing in a tie for 46th. Fellow freshman
Jessie Eaton, competing as an individual, posted the event's biggest round-to-round improvement, shaving 22 strokes off her score in round two. She finished tied for 65th, posting scores of 97-75-172. Eaton's final round 75 sets a career-low round, besting her previous mark by seven strokes.
The Eagles return to action at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate. The three-day event tees off on Sunday at Eagles Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.
