RICHMOND, Ky. – Following a 10-4 loss in the opener, Morehead State baseball rebounded with a 10-2 drubbing of host Eastern Kentucky as the teams split an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader Friday at Earle B. Combs Stadium.
Â
Morehead State moved to 14-10 overall and 5-3 in the league, while EKU now sits at 8-15 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Â
The Eagles got 10 hits in the opener and 14 in the nightcap for eight straight games now with double-digit hit totals, while senior second baseman
Braxton Morris extended his team-best hitting streak to 19 games and his reached-base streak to 25 games since the final contest of 2017.
"It was a good answer here in this second game," said head coach
Mike McGuire. "The walks we allowed were a bugaboo in game one, but we limited the free bases in game two, got a good start on the mound and did some good things offensively."

Â
The Colonels plated multiple runs in the second, third and sixth frames and used six doubles to power their way past the Eagles in the opener.
Â
Morehead State scored twice in the second inning, via junior
Connor Pauly's two-run double to score senior
Eli Boggess and freshman
Bryce Hensor. MSU put another run on the board in the third as sophomore
Jake Hammon drew a bases-loaded walk off EKU starter Logan Teague.
Â
EKU grabbed the lead back for good in the fourth on a fielder's choice ground out and an RBI double. The Eagles secured another run in the seventh as Boggess' triple pushed Morris across.
Â
Senior righty
David Calderon absorbed the loss, falling to 1-3. He allowed seven runs and struck out five but issued four walks.
Â
Morris and Boggess each collected three hits apiece, part of the 10-hit effort for the visitors.

Â
Morehead State built a 4-0 cushion and then doubled it with a four-spot in the fifth inning.
Â
Pauly knocked a two-run homer over the right-field wall in the fourth after Boggess made it a 2-0 Eagle lead in the third with an RBI single to score junior
Reid Leonard.
Â
The Eagles took advantage of three straight walks and another free pass later in the inning as they scored four times in the fifth. Pauly added another RBI on a ground out, Leonard plated two with a single, and senior
Tyler Niemann got into the act with an RBI single as well.
Â
Hensor lifted MSU to a 10-run advantage with a two-run double to score Boggess and Morris in the eighth stanza.
