Robyn Leighton smashed a first-inning grand slam, and senior pitcher
Chelsea McManaway struck out nine as the Morehead State softball team finished off the Winthrop Invitational with a 5-3 victory over Sacred Heart Sunday.
The Eagles (13-4) went a perfect 5-0 in the tournament in Rock Hill, S.C.
Leighton, who leads the team with four homers this year and now has 24 round-trippers in her career, nailed a one-out pitch in the first to stake the Eagles to a 5-0 lead.
Sacred Heart's Lauren Delgadillo lifted a three-run homer off McManaway's pitch in the third, but the senior Eagle hurler got the Pioneers out in order in the final three innings to improve to 9-1 this year.

Taylor Wheeler led MSU with two of the team's five hits. Freshman
Paige Scruggs knocked in the other run via a fielder's choice in the first.
NEXT UP
Morehead State returns home for the first of back-to-back home events next weekend. The Eagles will entertain IUPUI and Canisius in the Morehead State Classic on Saturday and Sunday. Action begins Saturday with games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET.
