MOREHEAD, Ky. – Sasha Sukhanov (Pronunciation: Sasha SOO-Hahn-uv), a Russian native who played his high school ball at Teays Valley Christian School in West Virginia, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Morehead State men's basketball program.
Sukhanov, a 6-11, 235-pound forward, is from Tomsk, Russia.
"We are extremely excited to add Sasha to our program. He provides the size that we needed, along with a skill set that will translate well with how we are going to play," said head coach
Preston Spradlin. "We are getting a guy who we have evaluated and recruited for more than a year now and know that he has been coached and prepared to be an impact player for our program moving into year two."
Sukhanov averaged 17.8 points and 6.8 rebounds as a senior in 2017-18 and connected on 45 percent from three-point range. He also averaged two blocks per game and connected on more than 1.5 three-pointers per outing. Sukhanov averaged 11.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game at TVCS in 2016-17.
"Sasha Sukhanov embodies everything we want from our student athletes at Teays Valley Christian," said TVCS head coach Ryan Arrowood. "His growth off the court, in the classroom, on the court, and spiritually has been nothing short of amazing. Besides all his individual success, his greatest growth was that as a teammate. His energy and positivity with our team this year was invaluable. We know great things are ahead for Sasha at Morehead State University, but he will be part of our Lion Pride forever."
Sukhanov produced some of his most notable games against high-level competition, including a 30-point, 15-rebound, four-assist effort against Oak Hill (Va.) Academy. He also had 21 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks against Huntington (W.Va.) Prep. In addition, he totaled 21 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and five blocks versus Legacy Charter.
