MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State beach volleyball christened Fazoli's Breadstick Beach on Monday, playing the Commonwealth of Kentucky's first-ever NCAA Division I sanctioned beach volleyball matches. Festivities started with a ribbon cutting ceremony with campus and local officials.

The Eagles (0-7) ultimately dropped both ends of the dual matches with Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay. Morehead State fell 5-0 twice.

Throughout the day, the Eagles kept things competitive, taking three of the flights to three sets. Morehead State pairings also pushed two sets into additional points.

Morehead State's pairings remained unchanged from the Eckerd College Battle on the Bay, sans for redshirt junior Jess Hall being subbed in for sophomore Chandler Clark in the second flight. Hall teamed up with freshman Olivia Lohmeier to form a formidable tandem, as the two forced their flight in match one to three sets, while forcing the third set to extra points.

Redshirt junior Jessie Wachtman and sophomore Liz Allen occupied the primary pairing for the Eagles, dropping both matches in straight sets. Junior Alyssa Cecil and sophomore Karlee Reynolds slotted into the third tandem for head coach Jaime Gordon, falling in straight sets.

The Eagles' final two pairings of junior Jordan Jones and freshman Lauren Rokey (fourth) and junior Maddie Fella and redshirt sophomore Danielle McCarson (fifth) remained unchanged. Both pairings pushed one of their two flights to a third set. Jones and Rokey did so in match one, while Fella and McCarson did so in match two.

Morehead State returns to the sand as it heads west to compete in the Principia College Round Robin in Elsah, Ill., on April 13. The Eagles will play host Principia, Lewis and Clark (Ill.), Ottawa (Kan.), and Stevenson (Md.) during the two-day event.
