OXFORD, Ala. – The Morehead State softball team's season ended after a hard-fought, 10 inning 1-0 loss to Austin Peay in an elimination game at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament on Friday afternoon at Choccolocco Park.

The Governors' lone run came in the top of the tenth inning after an error allowed Natalie Schilling, who led off the frame with a single, to score from first base. Senior Taylor Wheeler was able to get on with one out in the bottom half of the tenth after an error, but the following batters were held hitless.

"That was one of the best games I've been involved with in a long time; we left everything we had on the field and win or lose that's what we want to do," said head coach David Williams.

Morehead State managed to out-hit Austin Peay 6-3 but left nine runners on base. Junior outfielder Aubrey Bennett was 3-for-4 from the plate, while senior Robyn Leighton, freshman Paige Scruggs, and senior Hannah Murphy all had one hit apiece.

Senior pitcher Chelsea McManaway tossed 10 innings and gave up just three hits while striking out 11. The All-OVC First Team Pitcher finishes the season with a 17-12 record. The 17 wins ties for second most wins in a single season for an Eagle pitcher.

Morgan Rackel picked up the win for the Governors and improved to 21-6. Rackel, who began the game as the designated player, moved to the pitchers' circle in a relief role for starter Kelly Mardones, who tossed six and a third of an inning. Mardones gave up five hits and Rackel gave up one.

The loss ends Morehead State's season with an overall record of 28-23. The 28 wins mark the most for the program since 2009

"It was a really, really great group of girls, especially these seniors," said Williams.

McManway, Wheeler, Leighton, Murphy, Wheeler, Kylie Holton, Ellen Barrett, and Abigail Rhodes finished their softball careers at Morehead State. The group of seniors combined to win 102 games for the Eagle softball program.
