GAME NOTES
THE SERIES WITH JACKSONVILLE STATE
Morehead State trails 30-16 in the all-time series with Jacksonville State, dropping two of three last season in Oxford, Ala. The Eagles swept the Gamecocks in 2015 and 2016 and have won five of the last six games played at Allen Field. Under head coach
Mike McGuire, Morehead State owns a 10-6 advantage.
Â
GIANT SLAYERS
With Tuesday's 4-2 win over Tennessee, the Morehead State Eagles have defeated a Southeastern Conference opponent in back-to-back seasons and in four of the last five seasons. The Eagles have knocked off the Volunteers twice, while also defeating Mississippi State (2017) and Kentucky (2014).
Â
WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS
Relievers
Cory Conway and
JC Hatcher have become double play inducing specialists for the Eagles this season, coaxing 16 of the Eagles' 51 double plays. Lefty Conway and Righty Hatcher induce a double-play in nearly every third outing. Conway has coaxed a twin killing in each of his last four outings, while Hatcher has coaxed one in each of his last two outings.
Â
38 AND COUNTING
With a first-inning double in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over Tennessee, junior infielder
Reid Leonard extended his team-leading reached-base streak to 38 games. It is the longest streak for a Morehead State Eagle since current hitting coach
Kane Sweeney reached in a school-record 41 games in 2013. Â Leonard leads all Eagles, drawing 39 walks this season, a total that ranks 14
th in the NCAA. In total, he has drawn 44 free bases to lead the Eagles.
Â
DOUBLING UP ON DINGERS
By swatting two long balls in the Eagles' 24-11 victory over EIU on Saturday, junior first baseman
Trevor Snyder notched his fourth Ohio Valley Conference series hitting multiple homers. Snyder has homered twice in the Eagles' series with Southeast Missiouri, UT Martin, SIU Edwardsville, and EIU. He's also added four homers during midweek action to total a team-leading and career-high 12 big flies this year.
Â
THE MORE, THE MERRIER
After totaling just four games with double-digit runs prior to the month of April, the Eagles reached the plateau nine times in the month of April, stringing together two separate streaks of four consecutive games scoring north of ten runs. When scoring in double-digits Morehead State is 11-2.
Â
FIRST INNING WOES
In 28 games this season, the Eagles' offense has sent four or fewer men to the plate in the first inning and have failed to score. In spite of this, Morehead State is 16-12 in such games. In the 18 games where the Eagles have sent more than four hitters to the plate, they have scored in 14 of the 18 games, owning a record of 12-2 when scoring in the first frame.
Â
LATE INNING HEROICS
Among the 16 wins owned by the Eagles in games in which Morehead State has sent four or fewer batters to the plate in the first inning, eight victories have been decided in the seventh inning or later, including in the finale of each of the last three series. In the eight victories, the Eagles have scored 25 runs in the seventh inning or later. On the season, Morehead State has scored 146 of its 365 runs in the seventh inning or later.
