LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Morehead State women's soccer team dropped its final exhibition match before beginning the 2018 regular season to the Louisville Cardinals 4-0 on Saturday evening at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
"I think it was a great experience for our girls," said head coach
Warren Lipka. "Louisville is a great team and we fought, and I think we gained some valuable experience."
Morehead State allowed two goals in both the first and second halves. Goalkeeper
Michelle Washburn started and played the entire first half in the net while
Eva Helgadottir worked the entire second half in goal.
The Eagles entered the contest following a decisive 5-0 exhibition win at Marshall on Thursday and may have been experiencing some fatigue from the quick turnaround noted Lipka.
"Our kids were tired, but they fought through it," added Lipka. "We finished the preseason 1-1, had no injuries which is huge, and we're looking forward to building on what we did this preseason."
Morehead State opens its 2018 campaign on Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET against the Akron Zips at First Energy Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
