MOREHEAD, Ky. – A school-record 31 Morehead State student-athletes were awarded the Ohio Valley Conference Academic Medal of Honor for the 2017-18 academic year on Monday. The 31 student-athletes honored surpassed the previous school-best total of 24 from the 2015-16 academic year.
Student-athletes earn the OVC Academic Medal of Honor by achieving the highest-grade point average in a conference-sponsored sport. Each recipient of the award carried a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Volleyball led the way with five student-athletes receiving honors while rifle, women's cross country, and men's and women's' track and field each fielded four. Women's soccer also sported multiple recipients.
The OVC awarded the Academic Medal of Honor to 238 student-athletes between its' 12-member schools, which is the second most all time.
The conference will announce the recipients of the Commissioner's Honor Roll on Wednesday and the Team Academic Achievement award winners on Thursday.
