MOREHEAD, Ky. —
Following a month of preseason training, Morehead State volleyball opens the 2018 season Friday, hosting the Eagle Challenge. The four-team tournament includes Bradley, Hampton, and St. Francis Brooklyn, in addition to the host Eagles.

"I'm excited about the season," said head coach Jaime Gordon. "The team's been working really hard. It started last spring, carried through to the summer and they've been really putting a lot of effort in, not only on the court, but in building strong relationships because we have a good mix of returners and four freshmen coming in."

Action starts Friday at 11 a.m. ET, with the Eagles facing St. Francis Brooklyn for the first time in program history. Morehead State wraps day one play, hosting Bradley at 7 p.m. Saturday, the Eagles face Hampton at 2 p.m. to conclude the tournament.

Live stats will be available for all three matches and each match will be streamed through the OVC Digital Network.

The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers finished 8-21, 2-12 in the Northeast Conference in 2017 and head coach Abra Rummel enters her fourth season at the helm. Bradley wrapped the 2017 season at 10-22, 3-15 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Braves return their leader in each major category, including libero Yavianliz Rosado, who dug out 644 balls last season, ranking 11th in the NCAA. Hampton enters the year with a new conference home, moving to the Big South. The Pirates finshed 13-17, 7-5 in their final season in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The Eagles return 85 percent of last season's roster, including 2018 Preseason All-OVC member Lauren Rokey. The sophomore outside hitter from Eureka, Ill., returns having led the Eagles in kills (310) a year ago, averaging 3.13 kills per set. On the defensive end, Rokey added 210 digs, a total that finished second on the squad.

Senior setter and right-side hitter Jordan Jones provided the Eagles with a triple-threat, notching two triple-doubles in 2017. Jones dished out a team-leading 574 assists, while finishing third on the team with both 241 kills and 178 digs. She teamed with redshirt sophomore setter Chandler Clark (537 assists) to make Morehead State one of two teams in the Ohio Valley Conference with two setters with 500 or more assists.

At the net, senior middle blocker Maddie Fella rejected 105 of the team's 226 blocks last season. Redshirt junior Danielle McCarson paced the back row, collecting 346 digs to lead the team.

Morehead State's roster breakdown includes a redshirt senior, three true seniors, a redshirt junior, a true junior, two redshirt sophomores, two true sophomores, a redshirt freshman, and four true freshman. The 15-player roster represents seven states, including four each from Indiana and Ohio.

Following opening weekend action, the Eagles hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to rival Marshall on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. tilt.
