HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – In a back-and-forth affair, Morehead State volleyball falls to regional rival Marshall on Tuesday, 3-2. The Eagles and Thundering Herd alternated sets (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, and 23-25), before Marshall pulled ahead in the final frame 15-7.
Sophomore outside hitter
Olivia Lohmeier established a new career-high, recording 19 kills to lead all Eagles. She hit .416 from the outside, committing just four errors on 36 swings. In the Eagles' two set victories, Lohmeier slammed home 14 of her 19 terminations, committing just one error across the two sets.
Redshirt senior
Jessie Wachtman (14) and sophomore
Lauren Rokey (13) each recorded double-digit terminations, with Wachtman's total marking a new season-high. Wachtman recorded six of her 14 kills in the second set, while also recording three total blocks, including two solos in the match.
Setter
Chandler Clark registered her second double-double of the season (53 assists and 10 digs), while freshman libero
Allison Whitten recorded her second match of the season with 20 plus digs, digging up 23 balls. Redshirt freshman
Taylor Hodges dug out 12 balls, marking the second time she's recorded double-digit digs this season.
At the net, senior middle blocker
Maddie Fella blocked five total shots, helping her team to a third game of 10 or more blocks (12.0). On the season, Fella has blocked 26 total shots, an average of 2.17 a set. As a team, the Eagles have recorded 47.0 total blocks (2.94/set).
Marshall's Ciara Debell slammed home a match-high 32 kills on a match-high 72 swings to lead the Herd. Marshall hit .215 for the match, including a match-high .421 in the match's final set.
Morehead State returns to action Friday, hosting the Comfort Inn-Vitational. The Eagles welcome to Morehead Saint Francis (Pa.), Mercer, and Wright State. Matches begin at 11 a.m. ET on Friday.
