MOREHEAD, Ky. – After averaging an NCAA runner-up total 2.33 blocks per set in the season's opening weekend, senior middle blocker
Maddie Fella was named a VolleyMob award winner for her opening weekend performance.
In three matches on the weekend, Fella played in nine sets, blocking 21 total shots, a mark that ranks 13th in the NCAA. Fella squashed 12 total shots in the Eagles' season opener with St. Francis Brooklyn, including 10 block assists, one assist shy of her own Morehead State single-match record.
Fella added four total blocks versus Bradley, before turning away five shots versus Hampton. On the weekend, she tallied five solo blocks to pace the Eagles.
She led the charge for a Morehead State defense that smothered opponents through three matches. The Eagles lead the OVC in four defensive categories, including opponent hitting percentage (.118), opponent assists (9.64/set), opponent kills (10.27/set), and opponent service aces (0.82/set).
Offensively, Fella added 11 kills in 27 swings out of the middle. She committed only four errors, totaling a .259 hitting percentage. As a team, the Eagles rank 11th in blocks per set with 3.18, 23rd in total blocks with 35.0, and 29th in opponent hitting percentage. Four Eagles, including Fella, have recorded double-digit blocks on the season.
