Program's 950th All-Time Victory Punctuates a Perfect Day at the Comfort Inn-Vitational

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
The Morehead State volleyball program's 950th win punctuated a perfect day at the Comfort Inn-Vitational. The Eagles (5-1) defeated Saint Francis (Pa.) (0-5) in the event's opening match and Mercer (2-4) in the night cap.

The Eagles swept the Red Flash 25-20, 25-16, and 25-20 before downing the Bears 25-19, 25-20, and 25-13. The pair of wins also gives head coach Jaime Gordon 350 career wins, with 270 of the total coming at the helm of the Eagle program.

In the morning's opening match, Morehead State used a .287 hitting percentage and nine total blocks to down the Red Flash.

Sophomore outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier led the Eagles with 10 kills and no errors on 16 swings, hitting a match high .625. Senior right-side hitter Jordan Jones recorded seven kills and no errors in 12 attacks, hitting .583. Lohmeier and Jones combined for 17 kills on 28 swings, totaling a .607 hitting percentage in the match.

Senior middle blocker Maddie Fella paced the Eagles at the net, turning away a match-high six shots. Lohmeier, Jones, redshirt sophomore Chandler Clark, and redshirt senior Jessie Wachtman each blocked three shots apiece, helping the Eagles total nine blocks in the match.

In the back row, freshman libero Allison Whitten dug out a match-high 17 balls. The 17 digs marked the fourth straight match Whitten had recorded double-digit digs. Redshirt freshman Taylor Hodges added 10 digs, the third time this season she had reached double-digits.

Running the offense, Clark dished out 35 assists on the Eagles' 41 kills. The total marked the third time this season she had eclipsed 30 kills and the first in a three-set match.

MOREHEAD STATE 3, MERCER 0
Another solid all-around performance from the Eagles in the night cap sent the Eagles to a perfect day one of the Comfort Inn-Vitational, while also marking the program's 950th overall victory.

Wachtman and Jones comined for 10 kills apiece to pace the Eagles, while Lohmier added nine to finish one kill shy of the team lead. Wachtman and Jones combined for 20 kills with just four errors on 37 swings, hitting a combined .486 in the match.

For the second straight match, the Eagles blocked nine total shots, while Fella once again turned away five opponent attacks. Wachtman would add four of her own, giving the Eagles 65.0 total blocks on the season. Fella leads Morehead State in the category, blocking 37 total shots.

Whitten total 12 more digs in match number two, running her double-digit digs streak to five matches. The Eagles also totaled six service aces, three of which were landed by redshirt junior Danielle McCarson.

Clark dished out 28 more assists in the night cap, increasing her season total to 229 assists. Clark has registered 28 or more assists in all six matches this season, twice eclipsing 50 assists in a match.

Coach Gordon and the Eagles return to action tomorrow in the finale of the Comfort Inn-Vitational, hosting Wright State (4-1). First serve is set for 2 p.m. ET.
