MOREHEAD, Ky.
– The Morehead State soccer team is geared up to begin the Ohio Valley Conference portion of its schedule this weekend with a pair of home matches to be played on Friday and Sunday.

The Eagles will first take on Eastern Illinois on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. ET before a date with SIUE on Sunday afternoon that is scheduled to kick off at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Morehead State enters conference play having lost seven consecutive games since winning its season opening match at Akron on August 17.

While his team has a lopsided 1-7 win-loss record, head coach Warren Lipka believes his team is primed to do well in conference play thanks to playing a demanding non-conference slate.

"The opponents on our non-conference schedule certainly prepared us for conference play," said Lipka. "I'm not taking anything away from our conference because it's not soft but the reality is we played above our level in non-conference and played well in many games and I think that we will be prepared for conference play."

Senior forward Dani Wilson leads the team into conference play as the team's top offensive player and field general. Wilson currently tops the team in goals scored with two and shots on goal with 12.

Challenging opposing defenses in the front with WIlson is freshman forward Colleen Swift who has scored one goal and leads the team with 13 shots fired.

Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Eva Helgadottir is expected to get the start in goal for the Eagles. Helgadottir has saved 49 shots during the 2018 season which ranks ninth among the nations goalkeepers.

Eastern Illinois comes to Jayne Stadium sporting a 1-4-2 record and has lost its last two outings.

SIUE, which is coached by former Morehead State assistant Derek Burton, is 1-4 overall. The Eagles and Cougars have played one common opponent in Kentucky with both falling to the Wildcats 2-1.

Both games will be streamed live on the OVC Digital Network. Fans can also follow @msueagleslive on Twitter for live in-game updates.
