MOREHEAD, Ky.– The Morehead State soccer team begins to wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule as they embark on a two-game road trip with matches at Kent State and Duquesne
The Eagles will battle with the Golden Flashes on Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET before traveling to Pittsburgh for a date with the Dukes on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Currently, amid a five-game losing streak, Morehead State was able to find some bright spots in its latest defeat as the team outshot an opponent for the first time during 2018. The Eagles were bested 2-0 but of their 17 shots taken two were near makes that deflected off the post to help Kennesaw State hold on for the win.
Senior forward
Dani Wilson and freshman forward
Colleen Swift are the team's leading shot takers with Wilson firing 10 and Swift following close behind with nine. Wilson has also been very accurate as 8-of-10 shots taken have been on goal.
Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper
Eva Helgadottir has been a tough challenge for opposing offense to get past, saving 41 goals which ranks fifth in the nation and is first among Ohio Valley Conference goalies. The 6-foot-2 Reykjavik, Iceland native averages over six saves per game and has a save percentage of .804.
Kent State welcomes the Eagles to Dix Stadium sporting a 2-3-1 mark and is also on a losing skid having dropped its last two outings. The Golden Flashes dropped a 4-1 decision to UNC Wilmington and a 1-2 match to Fairleigh Dickerson with both matches being played in the UNCW Soccer Invitational.
Morehead State and Kent State have played one common opponent in Pittsburgh. The Eagles dropped a 1-0 double-overtime contest on August 19 to the Panthers while the Golden Flashes played to a 1-1 draw on August 24. The meeting will be the third overall meeting between the two programs with Kent State holding the 2-0 advantage and having won the most recent meeting 4-1 at home on October 19, 2012.
Duquesne currently sits a 2-2 overall in 2018 and has won its last two outings. The Dukes bested Jacksonville 3-0 at home on August 24 and then took down Binghamton 1-0 in the friendly confines of Rooney Field. Duquesne will take on Pittsburgh Thursday evening on the road prior to matching up with Morehead State.
The match will be the first meeting ever between the schools on the soccer field.
