TOLEDO, Ohio – In its first match of the day, Morehead State volleyball swept Manhattan to improve to 2-0 in the Blue and Gold Tournament. The Eagles' (7-2) stifling defense allowed Morehead State to sweep the Jaspers (0-9) 25-17, 25-12, and 25-21 in straight sets.
Throughout the match, Manhattan found it hard to penetrate the smothering Eagles' defense. Morehead State chilled its opponent to a sub-zero hitting percentage, with Manhattan finishing with a -0.024 percentage. Manhattan connected on just 17 kills in the match, making 19 errors to propel the Eagles.
The Eagles' front row turned back six total shots, led by junior middle blocker
Karlee Reynolds and sophomore outside hitter
Olivia Lohmeier, who totaled three apiece. Freshman middle blocker
Mia Swearingen would add a pair of blocks, while redshirt senior
Jessie Wachtman, senior
Jordan Jones, and redshirt sophomore
Chandler Clark would each add one apiece.
Offensively, Morehead State slammed home 36 winners. Lohmeier connected on 14 total terminations, reaching double-digits in the category for the sixth time this season. Sophomore outside hitter

Liz Allen (3), Jones (2), Swearingen (2), Clark (1), redshirt freshman

Allison Whitten paced the Eagles, scooping up 11 of the team's 37 digs. Whitten's total marks the seventh time this season she's reached double-digits in digs. Redshirt junior
Danielle McCarson nearly notched double-digits, collecting nine digs.
On the serve, Morehead State used an 8-0 advantage in the service aces category to pull away from its opponent. The Eagles did not make a single receiving error in the match to blank their opponent in the ace department.
Morehead State looks to remain perfect in the Blue and Gold Tournament this afternoon, taking on Duquesne in the event's penultimate match. First serve is set for 5 p.m. ET.
