MOREHEAD, Ky. – For the fourth time during the 2018-19 season, Morehead State women's basketball junior
Aliyah Jeune has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week.
Jeune, a 6-foot-1 guard who currently leads the conference in scoring with an average of 19.3 points per game, deposited nine triples in two Eagles' victories during the week.
The Westampton, N.J., native opened her award-winning week with 24 points in an 82-54 win over Southeast Missouri on Thursday. Jeune rained home a career-best six triples on 6-of-10 (.600) shooting from long range and finished 9-for-17 from the field overall (.529). The guard also nabbed six rebounds, dished three assists, and made two steals to add to her impressive scoring night.
Jeune followed the performance with a 15-point, four-rebound, and three-assist game in Morehead State's 85-75 win over UT Martin Saturday. Jeune nailed three more trifectas against the Skyhawks.
"Aliyah is getting more-and-more consistent with her play," said Eagles' head coach
Greg Todd. "She's getting to the point where she can help our team win even when her shot isn't falling."
Jeune is scorching the nets to a tune of 20.3 points and grabbing 7.7 rebounds per contest in Morehead State's first six OVC contests of the season.
Jeune and the Eagles return to the hardwood on Thursday against Tennessee Tech at Johnson Arena. The game is set to tipoff at 5:05 p.m. ET.
