Softball Adds Preferred Walk-Ons to 2020 Signing Class
MOREHEAD, Ky. – After signing six future Eagles during fall recruitment, the Morehead State Softball program has added a pair of preferred walk-ons to its class of 2020 signees.

MSU head coach Samantha Jones and her staff are pleased to announce the additions of Carissa Sabelhaus and Kelsey Sparks.

Sparks, a native of Bowling Green, Ky., prepped at Warren East High School and is the school's all-time hits leader. Through her junior season with the Lady Raiders, Sparks has accumulated 195 hits with a career batting average of .414 and earned All-Region 4 honors. The outfielder is also a standout at WEHS in basketball and cross country. In the classroom, Sparks has earned Kentucky High School Athletic Association All-Academic honors and was also accepted into the prestigious Kentucky Governor's Scholar Program. Sparks completed her GSP work over the summer of 2019 at Morehead State.

Sparks ties to Morehead State began before her GSP experience over the summer as both her grandparents are alumni. Her grandfather, Jim Ross, starred for the Eagles on the football gridiron and was a senior defensive lineman on the 1966 Ohio Valley Conference championship team that defeated Eastern Kentucky to take home title.

"We are excited to add Kelsey to our family," said Jones. "She helps bring versatility in the box and speed in the outfield. She fits in to the culture we are building here at and we are looking forward to her adding into the blue-collar work ethic."

Sabelhaus, a native of North Vernon, Ind., becomes an Eagle after being named an All-Area catcher at Jennings County High School. During her junior season, Sabelhaus turned in a .376 batting average and an on-base percentage of .442. Academically Sabelhaus is a member of the National Honors Society.

"Our staff is very happy that Carissa is becoming an Eagle," said Jones. "She plays the game with passion and high energy and will bring depth behind the plate and a competitive bat in the lineup."

Perkins and Sabelhaus will enroll at Morehead State in fall semester of 2020.
