MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State Softball team has made its 2020 schedule official and is excited to host 14 home games as well as take on some tough non-conference competition on the road.
Â
"We're very excited for the schedule we have put together," said MSU head coach
Samantha Jones. "We believe we have scheduled a challenging non-conference slate that will prepare us for Ohio Valley Conference play. We're also really glad to have the chance to play 14 games in front of our great fans and family at University Field."
Â
The Eagles open their new campaign on Feb. 15 with the first of three-weekend invitational tournaments as they travel to Charlotte for the First Pitch Classic. From there, MSU will play in the Michelle Short Memorial Classic hosted by Central Arkansas on Feb. 22-23 followed by the Spartan/Pirate Classic host by Norfolk State and Hampton.
Â
The first home game of the season pits Morehead State against Dayton in doubleheader action on March 11. While the Flyers are the only non-conference matchup at home, the team will play several regional opponents on the road, traveling to Marshall (Mar. 18 DH), Wright State (Mar. 24, DH), and Northern Kentucky (April 29, DH).
Â
Also, outside of league competition are matchups against Kentucky and Indiana.
Â
The Wildcats and Eagles are slated to meet for the first time since 2012 in a single game matchup in Lexington on April 8. The game will pit Jones against alma mater for the first time in her career. Jones graduated from UK in 2012.
Â
MSU will travel to Indiana for a two-game set on April 22. That matchup will also pit coach against alma mater as Eagles' assistant coach
Rachel O'Malley plays against her former team.
Â
In OVC play, Morehead State is scheduled to host Tennessee State (Mar. 21) defending tournament champions Southeast Missouri (Mar. 28), UT Martin (Mar. 29), Eastern Kentucky (April 14), Austin Peay (April 25), and Murray State (April 26).
